Taiwan's Accton, Viettel Telecom to Form JV

Taiwanese network equipment supplier Accton recently announced that the company will establish a JV with Vietnamese telecom operator Viettel Telecom, according to a press release by Accton on January 7. The JV, to be set up in February 2010 at the earliest, will be capitalized at US$30 million, with Accton holding 30% stake and Viettel Telecom owning the remaining 70%. The JV reportedly will manufacture consumer electronic devices, including mobile phones and netbook PCs. Meanwhile, Accton stated that the JV will initially focus on R&D leveraging both companies' proprietary technologies and the company's board of directors already approved the investment plan, according to the same source.
